The Mikado
OR THE TOWN OF TITIPU
QUEEN'S THEATRE
Billet Lane, Hornchurch, Essex
Wednesday 8th - Saturday 11th June 1983
Evenings 7.45pm
Music by Arthur Sullivan
Lyrics by William Gilbert
The Mikado was the most successful of Gilbert & Sullivan's operettas. The show centres around the town of Titipu. In typical G&S style, the plot is a confusing one! But basically, Nanki-Poo is in love with Yum-Yum, but she is betrothed to the Lord High Executioner, Ko-Ko. Furthermore, Nanki-Poo is actually the Mikado's son and is being followed by the older and domineering Katisha. Further twists in the tale ensue, but I think you'll have to go and see it to see how the tale concludes!!!
Some of Sullivan's most famous songs come from The Mikado, including:
A Wand'ring Minstrel I • Three Little Maids From School • Braid The Raven Hair • Behold The Lord High Executioner • I Am So Proud • Here's A How-de-do!
